NEW PROJECTS AT OCEAN YACHT SYSTEMS A number of new projects are now under way at Ocean Yacht Systems including Ethereal, a 58m Ron Holland design, currently under construction at the Royal Huisman Shipyard in Holland. OYS are providing full rod rigging and hydraulic systems for the ketch, due for launch in 2008. Ethereal was inspired by the 43.5m ketch Juliet, also from the Holland drawing board and built by Royal Huisman, with OYS rigging. Continuing a good working relationship with Paul Johnson, who was the Project Manager for Mirabella V, OYS are producing a bespoke rigging system for the 52m Sparkman and Stephens ketch Nazenin V. Nazenin V is currently in build at RMK Marine in Turkey. A good example to illustrate the diverse set of new projects currently going through OYS is Valquest, described as a 41m fast cruising sloop. She is designed by Dubois Naval Architects and in build at Bloemsma & Van Breemen Shipyard in Holland. She is typical of the new style of performance cruising yacht and OYS are producing a full rod rigging system. Due for launch in 2008, the Dubois 51.7m sloop Red Dragon, building at Alloy Yachts in New Zealand, is going to be carrying OYS rod rigging. With the same design and build team of Alloy Yachts and Dubois, Mondango a 51.7m ketch is also to be equipped with a full set of OYS rod rigging. OYS have been working closely with Southern Spars on a number of key projects, including the new Briand 120 sloop Bristolian, currently under construction at Yachting Developments in New Zealand, which requires an ultra light composite rigging package comprising custom titanium mast tangs and tip cups. The bespoke rigging system is being manufactured along similar lines as OYS have already provided for Meteor, the Alden/Dijkstra 50.2m schooner, recently launched at the Royal Huisman Shipyard. Commercial Director, Wayne Shatwell, said, "We are working on a number of exciting high profile projects at OYS, which are due for launch over the next 18 months. With the new generations of performance cruising or racing superyacht, a number of projects are now ideally suited for our PBO rigging, which saves weight, allowing the boats to benefit from less heel and pitching, resulting in an overall improved performance. At the same time, our unique rig interface system is totally interchangeable between rod and PBO, allowing boats to switch to PBO without the need to modify or replace spreaders or mast attachments. The change over is quick and easy with very little downtime in the yard to switch systems." [ June 2007 ]
