BOW THRUSTERS FOR SUPERYACHTS

Ocean Yacht Systems have worked within the superyacht industry for many years, supplying Rod, Kevlar and PBO rigging solutions to some of the world's most prestigious yachts.

In 2006, OYS launched their Thruster Division, which has already achieved a similar reputation for high quality standards and leading edge engineering, which OYS products are renowned for worldwide.

OYS provide a full range of thrusters to accommodate a variety of applications. Within the range, bow or stern thrusters can be specified as fixed or retractable, with a choice of either hydraulic or electrical drive systems.

Tunnels can be manufactured in fibreglass, aluminium or marine grade steel to satisfy the varying requirements of each design and client. The high engineering specifications of the products mean they are suitable for commercial applications, as well as for the leisure market.

A number of projects are currently going through the Division for both new build and retrofit. New builds include the 32m Dubois motoryacht Xos currently building in Turkey, who is to have a 70hp bow thrusters fitted. At Vitters Shipyard, the 52m Hoek sailing yacht Boreas, will have both bow and stern 135hp swing thrusters, when she launches in late 2008. In addition, Christensen Motoryachts are fitting OYS's latest new electric thrusters.

Two significant retrofit projects are the 57m Bannenburg design Sagitta, which was launched in 2001 and has new OYS bow and stern thrusters, as well as Mirabella V the 75m Holland sloop, which had a new vertical retracting bow thruster fitted and has successfully undergone sea trials.

Director for the OYS Thruster and Hydraulics Division, Ian Crowden, said "OYS thrusters have introduced a new generation of design, offering optimum manoeuvrability with reliable operation."
