Whisper quiet thrusters at METS
Ocean Yacht Systems (OYS) have launched their new ultra quiet, highly efficient and the most advanced thruster available in the Superyacht marketplace today. Visit OYS on stand 03.114 at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) from the 15th – 17th November 2011.
The new Rim Driven Electric Thruster (RDE) is significantly lighter than competitive products and can be used as a traditional fixed, swing or vertical retracting thruster unit. It can be retrofitted as well as being specifically designed and manufactured as part of the original equipment supplier for a Superyacht build.
Amazingly the RDE has only one moving part, the propeller. The propeller is supported centrally within the unit and rotates without contacting the encapsulated outer unit. There is no requirement for expensive rim bearings and it operates without the need for water tight seals, saving weight, cost and vastly improving reliability.
The RDE thrusters, when fitted with the OYS rotation option, can also be used as emergency propulsion, or as part of a dynamic positioning (DP) system. Not stopping there, this unique RDE design thruster can also act as in-water generator providing an environmentally friendly way to recover energy back to the ship.
